Born on June 16, 1930, in Friedens, the son of the son of the late John Omerzo and the late Christine (Remz) Brown. He is preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Julia (Lyzbicki) Omerzo in 2004; by five brothers, John, Frank, Jim, Mike and Tom Omerzo, and by two sisters, Ann Shaffer and Mary Mullen. He is survived by his sons, Louis 'Pooch' (Jodi) Omerzo, Fowler, Ohio, and Gary (Ramona) Omerzo, Burghill, Ohio; daughters, Paula Omerzo, Florida and Sue (Ian "Ivan") McAleer, Fowler; brother, Bob Omerzo, Cortland, Ohio, and sister, Donna Gates, Howland, Ohio. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Keith and Suszann McAleer, Brandon, Lauren, Nathan, Savannah, Sierra and Jake Omerzo. Mr. Omerzo is a veteran of the United States Army. He served during the Korean War, and was a POW for 31Ú2 years. He retired from RMI Titanium where he had worked for 30 years. "Pooch" enjoyed traveling and fishing while he was in Florida. He loved spending his time outdoors, particularly taking his grandchildren for rides on his golf cart. Arrangements are being handled by Shafer-Winans Funeral Chapel, 164N. High St., Cortland, Ohio, where the family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday. Friday. Funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 6 p.m. Friday.
