Opel, 47, of Ashland, Ohio, RD 3, died Dec. 25, 1972, in Good Shepherd Home following a long illness. Born in Somerset County, Dec. 25, 1925, he was a resident of Ashland County, Ohio, for the past 10 years. He had been manager of a Montgomery Ward store in Ludington, Mich. He had been married in 1961 to Mildred Cline, who survives. Also surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Opel, Meyersdale; one stepson. Larry Casey, of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Jeanne Salter, Mansfield, Ohio; six step-grandchildren; three brothers, W. LeRoy Opel, of LaGrange, Ohio; Clark Opel, Elyria, Ohio; and George of Oberlin, Ohio; also two sisters, Mrs. George Opel, Meyersdale RD 3; and Mrs. Evelyn Shaw, Frostburg. He was a member of the Church of Christ of Ashland, the VFW there; Elks Lodge 736 of Ludington, Mich.; and had served with the U.S Army during World War II. Funeral service was held last Thursday afternoon in Heyl Funeral Home, Ashland, with Rev. Harold J. Stanley officiating. Burial in Ashland County Memorial Park Cemetery.
