Born in Frostburg, Maryland, he was a son of the late Jacob Opel and Rose (Carey) Opel. He was the owner and operator of the Long Stretch Fruit Market. He was a veteran of World War II, and was a member of Grantsville Post 214, American Legion; a charter member of the Grantsville Lions Club, and a social member of the Eastern Garrett County Volunteer Fire Department. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Beatrice (Wilhelm) Opel; three sons, Dale Opel, David Opel and Bruce Opel, all of Star Route, Frostburg; one sister, Mrs. Blanche Finnell, Portland, Ore., and four grandchildren. Friends were received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville, where services were held by Pastor K. Almond. Interment was in Mount Zion Cemetery, Star Route, Frostburg.
