Born at St. Paul, he was a son of the late Henry J. and Savilla (Gnagey) Opel. His wife, Margaret (Zehner) Opel, preceded him in death. Mr. Opel was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church where he had been Sunday school superintendent and teacher, and a member of the church council. Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Mildred Wiedenheft, Sandusky, Ohio; Mrs. Leota Boltz, Pittsburgh; and Misses Alma, Esther and Claudine Opel, all of Route 2, Accident, Md.; a brother, William Opel, Meyersdale; a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Maust, Louisville, Ohio; eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Funeral services were held October 12 at St. John's Church with Rev. William Carlson officiating. Newman Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Interment, church cemetery.
