Opel, died at her home on the National Highway at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 13. She had been afflicted with carcinoma for a number of years, and a little over a year ago, underwent an operation. She had been in seemingly good health most of the past year, but recently began to fail rapidly. Mrs. Opel was born in Garrett County, Md., near where she lived all her life, on May 28, 1883, a daughter of James and Ada (Blocher) Carey. She was 63 years, 1 month and 15 days in age at her death. Her husband preceded her to the grave in 1942. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Blanche Finell of Portland, Oregon; four sons, Lester, residing near the state line, and William, Earl and Russell, at home; three sisters, Mrs. Anna McKenzie, Frostburg; Mrs. Mary Robinson, LaVale, and Mrs. Hazel Meese, Route 1, Salisbury; two brothers, John and Allan Carey of Frostburg, and two grandchildren. She was a member of the Grantsville Methodist Church. Funeral services were conducted in the Mt. Zion Church on the National Highway at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 16, with Rev. Ira S. Monn, pastor of St. John's Reformed Church of Salisbury, officiating. Interment in the Church Cemetery in charge of Mortician Stanley M. Thomas. Meyersdale Republican, July 18, 1946
