"Hank" Opperman, 83, 1737 Shelburne Place, died October 21, 1989. He was born March 6, 1906, in Johnstown, son of the late Charles and Emma (Schmerer) Opperman. He was preceded in death by first wife, former Esther E. Urban; an infant son; and seven brothers and sisters. He is survived by wife, former Sally McNally, and these children: Louise, wife of Milford E. Miles; and Mark McNally, both of Johnstown; and Marla, wife of L. Lee Phillips, Los Angeles, Calif.; also these grandchildren; Susan, wife of Tom Atheson, Greensburg; and Scott Miles, Johnstown; and three great-grandchildren. He was a brother of Louis, Meyersdale; and Emma Sharetts, Johnstown; also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church; former president of Johnstown Rotary and North Fork Country Club; active member of Sunnehanna Country Club; American Legion; Masons, Conemaugh Valley Lodge 692; Shrine Club; Tall Cedars of Lebanon; Jaffa Temple; Knights Templar and TPA; retired manager of McNally Tire and Rubber Co.; World War II Army veteran, served in 83rd Infantry Division. Friends were received at John Henderson Co. Funeral Home, 215 Central Ave., where funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, the Rev. Warren S. Karshin officiating.
