Orban Jr., one of the most respected attorneys in Somerset County and former dean of Somerset Bar Association, died April 12, 2003. He was 91. Although born in Onnalinda and raised in Hooversville, he graduated in 1929 from Somerset High School. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1934 and his Juris Doctorate in 1937 from the University of Michigan. He was admitted to the Pennsylvania Bar in 1938. Mr. Orban actively practiced criminal and civil law from 1938-2001. He served his clerkship under the late Bud Boose, along with attorney Frank S. Lucente. In 1941, Orban and Lucente opened their respective offices in the former Biesecker building at 114 E. Union Street where they practiced until they retired. After two terms as Republican state representative, Orban was appointed district attorney in 1950 and elected to serve in this capacity for 10 years. In 1967-1968 he served as second vice president of the Pennsylvania Constitutional Convention, during which the State constitution was amended. As a member of the Convention he was a key spokesman for the State non-Urban interests. He also served as a Republican State Committeeman. In addition to being active politically, Mr. Orban was a quiet philanthropist and a member of many civic organizations including the Lions Club, the Fraternal Order of the Moose and the American Legion. He also served in the US Army. Always sartorial, Frank Orban was also known for his incisive knowledge of the law, insightful commentary on public issues and sometimes slightly irreverent sense of humor. Preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Mary Servicky Orban, brother William S. Orban and sister Rose Daly. Survived by three children, Frank A. Orban, III, married to the former Anne Joseph of Lancaster, Michael Orban of New York, NY. and Susan, great-grandson, Hayden Mason. Friends were received at the Newman Funeral Homes, PA. Grantsville, Md., on Monday and Tuesday. Servies were conducted in the funeral home at 11 a.m. Wednesday, with Pastor Butch Morsberger officiating. Interment will be in Maple Glen Cemetery, Fort Hill, where military graveside rites will be accorded by Salisbury VFW. Expressions of sympathy may be directed to the American Heart Association. Orban and Michael M. Orban. Also survived by brother Eugene Orban and his wife Ann of Central City and his sister-in-law Jean Orban, Somerset. The family will receive friends from 2:30 to 4:30 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home, Somerset. Funeral Mass will be conducted 10 a.m. Wednesday at the St. Peter's Catholic Church, Monsignor Samuel J. Tomaselli celebrant. A private committal service will follow at the Somerset County Memorial Park. The Orban family will receive friends at the Inn at Georgian Place at 1 p.m. In lieu of lowers, donations may be made to the Duke Comprehensive Cancer Center, DUMC 3828, Durham, N.C. 27710, where the family has established the Orban-Eichler [obit ends.] Daily American April 14, 2003
