ORENDORF Grantsville, Maryland Christian C. Orendorf, well known farmer, died at his home near here, Tuesday, Oct. 22, after a short illness. While his health had been failing for several years his condition did not become critical until the previous Friday night, and his death, which was attributed to a heart condition and complications, came as a distinct shock to his family and friends. Mr. Orendorf was born December 6, 1867, in Pennsylvania, on a farm near the state line now occupied by Thomas Hetrick, and was 73 years of age at the time of his demise. He was a son of Christian C. and Lena Beachy Orendorf, his father being a native of Germany. When he was only four years old his parents moved to a farm near Bittinger and with the exception of about two and a half years, when he resided at Canton, O., he has spent his entire life in this community. For the past forty-six years he has owned and successfully operated the farm which has been his home. In his early boyhood he became a member of the Amish church, but later transferred his membership to the Mennonite church. On January 25, 1892, at Oakland, he married Miss Anna Beitzel, daughter of the late Henry and Mary Shoemaker Beitzel. They were the parents of ten children, three of whom have preceded him in death. They were Emma, who died in infancy; Clarence, the only son, died Nov. 18, 1937, and Orpha, wife of Wilbert Livengood, died Jan. 15, 1938. Surviving are his wife and the following daughters: Ada, wife of H. J. Bender; Lena (Mrs. David Schwary); Victoria (Mrs. Roy Resh), and Clara Orendorf, all of Canton, O.; Mary (Mrs. Sherman Miller), Alta (Mrs. J. J. Burkholder), Grantsville, and Susie Orendorf, at home. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Beitzel, Accident, Mrs. Barbara Brenneman, Grantsville, one half- sister, Mrs. Susan Schrock and one half-brother, Solomon Orendorf, both of Accident, and nine grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Bittinger church Friday afternoon, Oct. 25. The Rev. Issac K. Metzler, pastor, who officiated, was assisted by Rev. A. C. Curran, pastor of the Bittinger Lutheran Church. Interment was in the Glade Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were William Resh, Lester Bender, Raymond Orendorf, Chester Bender, and Olin Orendorf, all grandsons of the deceased, and Daniel W. Klotz, a nephew.
