Ortman, 75, of Somerset Avenue, Rockwood, passed away Feb. 9, 1999, in Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown. Born Feb. 13, 1923, in Ford City, son of Jacob and Sophia Ortman. Preceded in death by parents; sisters, Anne Ortmann, Catheryn Wakefield, Margaret Peck and brother, Edward Ortmann. Survived by wife of 41 years, the former Dorla Pritts; sons, Greg, married to Joni, Cumberland, Md.; Brian, married to Candee, McKeesport; and daughter, Mrs. David (Beth) Mapes, Somerset. Also, grandchildren, Brianna, Jeremy, Chloe and Ian. Brother of William Ortmann, Pittsburgh; Jacob Ortmann, Ford City; Fredrick Ortmann, Pittsburgh; Mrs. Martin (Mary Louise) Valenti, Pittsburgh; and Elizabeth Young of Columbus, Ohio. Graduate of Ford City High School and Slippery Rock University. He received his master's degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. A longtime teacher, coach and guidance counselor at Rockwood High School. Member of the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks, where he was a past state president. He was a PIAA District 5 statistician for many years. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Miller Funeral Home, Rockwood. Funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday at St. Peter's Church, Somerset, Monsignor Samuel Thomaselli, celebrant. Vigil for the deceased will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday. Interment, Somerset County Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be sent to the American Heart Association, Southwestern Pa.
