"Bill" Palanes, 72, Central City, died May 29, 2000. Born Nov. 23, 1927 in Cairnbrook, the son of Aloysious and Katherine (Rogosky) Palanes. Preceded in death by parents, son-in-law David Spaid, sisters, Stella Davis, Katherine Sadosky, Blanche Yock, Magdeline Palanes, and Alice Wilk, and brother James. Survived by wife of 49 years, the former Eva Kovach whom he married Sept. 2? 1950; children Rita Palanes and Mary Katherine Spaid, both of Ocala, Fla., Alan Paul, married to the former Kim Flickner of Shanksville, and Brian Charles married to the former Terri Momberger, Somerset, and grandchildren, Vincent Spaid, married to the former Moria Garber, Orlando Fla., Christopher James and Amy Lynn Palanes, both of Somerset. Brother of Anna Plunkett, France, Sutt, and Eleanor Hlivko, all of Johnstown. Vince enjoyed woodworking and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in Germany with the Army of Occupation. Retired in 1982 from Bethlehem Steel's Car Shop. He was a member of Our Lady Queen of Angel's Parish and its adult choir. Also a member of the Knights of Columbus and American Legion Post 449. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Mulcahy Funeral Home, Central City, where vigil for the deceased will be held at 2:14 p.m. Thursday. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at Our Lady Queen of Angels, Rev. Charles Bodziak, Rev. Msgr. I.C. Wadas celebrants. Committal, Sacred Heart Cemetery.
