Palumbo, a lifelong resident of Windber, passed away on May 6, 2006 at Conemaugh Hospital. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary; his parents, Constantino and Anna Palumbo; sister, Nora Pierre; and brothers, Raymond, Arthur and John. He is survived by sons, David and Jim, husband of Janice; daughter, Olivia Moore and fiance, Bob Becker; grandchildren; Michael Moore and wife, Christy, Michelle Gearhart and husband, Brian, Kaitlyn and Kara Palumbo (the daughters of Jim and Janice); great-grandson, Dominic Gearhart, and two great-grandsons on the way. Survived by sisters-in-law, Ethel Palumbo, widow of Arthur; Eva Dill (Mary's sister), wife of James Dill; brother-in-law, Anthony DiGiulio and wife, Eleanor, and many nieces, nephews and friends. During World War II, Virgil was a sergeant in the U.S. Army assigned to the 199th General Hospital. Employed for many years as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, Virgil enjoyed serving his customers and they, except for an occasional dog, enjoyed him. Virgil was a quiet and gentle man, who very much loved his family. But the love of his life was his wife, Mary. He lived for her and she for him. When Mom died on April 12, 2006, we greatly feared Dad would soon join her. He did to our overwhelming sorrow. We love you Dad; we love you Mom. Our only consolation is that you are together. But the sorrow will never cease until the inexorable flow of time unites us once more and the love we shared we share again. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Meek and Dalla Valle Funeral Home Inc., Windber, where vigil for the deceased will be held. Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Windber. TOR Fransicans. Committal St. Anthony Mausoleum, Windber. Military graveside rite by Windber VFW Ritual Team.
