Panion, 74, of E. 2nd St., Gray, died May 20, 1997, at Meadow View Nursing Center, Berlin. Born Oct. 14, 1922, in Boswell. Son of Andrew Sr. and Frances (Vaselich) Panion. Preceded in death by parents; grandson Nathan J. Panion; brothers Charles, killed in World War 11; Andrew Jr. and Tom; sister Mary Downie-Miller; infant brother and three infant sisters. Survived by widow, the former Helen Tokarz, and these children: Lewis K., married to the former Ruth Pushkar, Titusville, and LaVonne Marie, wife of Ronald J. Destro, Pittsburgh; grandchildren Tonya Panion, Lane Marie Destro and Angela Rae Destro. Brother of Katherine, widow of Fred Birchall, Boswell. Member of All Saint's Catholic Parish, Pearl Harbor Survivor's Club, Military Order of Purple Heart, Jenner Rod and Gun Club, Hollsopple Post 8861, VFW, and various area sportsmen's clubs. Observed 52nd wedding anniversary on April 21, 1997. Retired employee of the former Johnstown Works, U.S. Steel. Army veteran of World War II. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Hoffman Funeral Home, Allegheny Street, Boswell, where wake service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday. Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Friday at St. John's Church, Acosta, the Rev. Father Conrad Salach, O.F.M. Conv., celebrant. Interment, Somerset County Memorial Park. Graveside military rite in the charge of Menoher Post 155 VFW Ritual Team. Memorials to Regional Hospice at Windber, 600 Somerset Ave., Windber, Pa. 15963, would be appreciated.
