He was a sufferer from cancer of the stomach, for several years, and was confined to his bed about a month. Jasper Parnell was born in Preston County, West Virginia, May 26, 1862. When about 12 years of age he moved, with his parents, to a farm in Henry Clay Township, Fayette County, near Somerfield, Pa., where he resided for a number of years. He was employed from about 1890 to 1900 by A. G. Black & Sons on their farm in Henry Clay Township. In 1900 he moved to Confluence, where for eighteen years he was employed as a teamster by V. M. Black & Co., coal dealers. In 1919 he entered the employ of A. G. Black's Sons Co. department store, and took charge of the wagon delivery service of that firm. He was employed in the capacity until 1928, when he severed his connections with that firm. Mr. Parnell was married in 1889 to Samantha Hunter, of Henry Clay Township, who survives him. He is also survived by the following children: John Parnell, Confluence; Mrs. Ethel Miller, Shinnston, W.Va., and Mrs. Nellie Uphold, of Confluence. He is also survived by one brother, Adam Parnell, of Henry Clay Township, and two sisters, Mrs. Sarah Silbaugh, of Somerfield, and Mrs. Nora Silbaugh, of Confluence. One daughter, Mary, preceded him to the grave. Mr. Parnell was a member of Confluence Tent, Knights of the Maccabees. Funeral services were held at the family home Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. Howard W. Jamison of the Confluence Methodist Episcopal Church, officiating. Interment in the Baptist Cemetery, Confluence, Tent Knights of the Maccabees in charge, the pall-bearers were John L. Hyatt, F. S. Gerhard, E. B. Brown, M. E. Goller, L. L. Mountain and Frank Bowlin, being members of that order. Meyersdale Republican, May 28, 1931
