Parnell, 78, Alto, Ga., formerly of Confluence, died Dec. 8, 2005. Born Sept. 22, 1927, in Akron, Ohio, he is the son of the late Alethea Shirey. Raised by his grandparents, Adam and Nancy (Close) Parnell, Confluence. Also preceded in death by grandson, Richard Allen Parnell. Survived by a brother, Rex Shirey, Akron, Ohio; special friend, Barbara Ross of Alto, Ga.; and children, Brenda Yommer and husband James, Somerset; Kevin and special friend Lisa Frazier, Confluence; Trudy Fisher and husband Lonnie, Confluence; Richard and wife Gale, Summersville, W.Va.; and Michael and wife Juli, Fayetteville, N.C.; grandchildren, Katilee and Keenan Parnell, Confluence; Andrea and Jennifer Spano, New Stanton; Jessica Spano, Orlando, Fla.; Adam Parnell and wife Maria, Kileen, Texas; Aubrey Parnell, Summersville, W.Va.; and Mike Parnell, Fayetteville, N.C. He had worked as a long haul truck driver for 40 years until his retirement in 1990. Lifetime member of VFW Post 7250 for which he served in the positions of past commander and steward. Graveside services to be conducted at a later date. Interment in Johnson Chapel Cemetery.
