PATTON The body of Corporal Clarence F. Patton was returned to Salisbury, Nov. 20, from Italy for reburial. Cpl. Patton was born in West Salisbury on April 26, 1920, son of Martha (Gibson) and Henry N. Patton. He was married to the former Alice Vena of Meyersdale and, in addition to his parents and wife, he is survived by one brother and two sisters - Nelson Patton, Windsor Heights, W.Va.; Mrs. Martha Habbershon and Mrs. Mary Mowery, both of Lewistown. Cpl. Patton entered the Army as a peacetime draftee in October 1941. He served 32 months overseas in the Medical Corps through the invasions of Africa and Italy as litter-bearer, ambulance driver and first aid man, without injury. On May 10, 1945, with five other members of his outfit, he left Rome for Naples in a command car, to sail for home. Three hours later, the command car was forced off the road into some trees when an Italian bus the car was passing swerved to the left. The command car crashed into a parked car, and Cpl. Patton was killed when his chest was punctured. Memorial services were conducted in Salisbury Methodist Church at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, with the Rev. Ira S. Monn officiating. Members of Walker Harris Post of V.F.W. acted as pall bearers and gave Cpl. Patton a reburial with full military honors. Burial was made in I.O.O.F. Cemetery in charge of Mortician Stanley M. Thomas.
