Pessolano, 81, of New Kensington, died Aug. 13, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center, Pittsburgh. He was born Aug. 6, 1918, in New Kensington. His parents were Orlando and Emma (Lucchesi) Pessolano. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers: Vincent, James (Romeo) and Louis Pessolano; and one sister, Rose Spivak. Survived by his wife of 47 years, Theresa (Caruso) Pessolano; one son, Dr. Francis X. Pessolano of Somerset; five daughters: Rosemary, wife of Stephen Kuniak, of Lower Burrell; Theresa, wife of Kenneth Hodak, of Charleston, W.Va.; Angela Pessolano of Pittsburgh; Emma, wife of Bernard Sarsfield, of Greensburg; and Beatrice, wife of Richard Knecht, of Friedens. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and one brother, Carlo Pessolano of Florida. He entered Duquesne University School of Pharmacy after World War II and graduated in 1951. He remained active in the Pharmacy Alumni Association From 1951 until 1965. He, along with his partner, owned New Ken Pharmacy in New Kensington. At the age of 47, he and his wife Theresa and their six children moved their family to Italy where he studied medicine at the University of Bologna. After graduating in 1970, he and his family returned to New Kensington where he practiced as an emergency room physician in various local hospitals including Citizens General Hospital and Jeannette District Memorial. At the same time, Frank worked for Alcoa as a plant physician at its Merwin and New Kensington plants. In 1995, after 25 years of practice, Frank retired from medicine. He kept active by enrolling in Spanish classes at Penn State's New Kensington campus. Dr. Pessolano entered the Army Air Corps on Dec. 7, 1941, where he served in Army Intelligence in the North African Sicilian and Italian Campaigns. He received the good conduct Medal of Honor and was discharged in 1946 with the rank of Major. He was a member of Mt. Saint Peter R.C. Church in New Kensington and the Holy Name Society of the Church. He portrayed St. Nicholas at Christmas time for many years at Mount Saint Peter Church and School, traditionally presenting gifts to the children. He was a life member and fourth degree knight with the Knights of Columbus, New Kensington and a member of the Allegheny Kiski Assembly of he Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the American Medical Association, American College of Emergency Physicians, Duquense University Alumni Association and the Italian Sons and Daughters of America. His time spent with his grandchildren and loving wife was his greatest joy. He also enjoyed Italian operas and gardening. Friends were received Sunday at the John B. Giunta Funeral Home, Inc. 1509 Fifth Ave., Arnold, Pa. Prayer Service will be held Monday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Christian funeral mass at 10 a.m. at Mount Saint Peters R.C. Church. Burial will be at Greenwood Memorial Park Mausoleum, Lower Burrell. The family requests memorial donations be made to Mt.
