"Brownie" 10/25/05 Daily American Steve J. "Brownie" Petrilla, 77, Hooversville, died Oct. 24, 2005, at Select Specialty Hospital, Johnstown. Born Aug. 21, 1928, in Windber, son of the late Stephen and Mary (Elias) Petrilla. Preceded in death by daughter, Annette Marie Petrilla, who passed away March 6, 1959; sisters, Margaret Petrilla, Agnes Petrilla, Mary Baranik and Emma Stopko; and brothers, Edward Petrilla, George Petrilla, Sylvester Petrilla and Joseph Petrilla Sr. Survived by wife of 54 years, Nellie (Mincek) Petrilla and children, Stephen Petrilla, married to former Bonnie Beppler; Marcia, married to Daniel Kaltenbaugh; Christopher Petrilla, married to former Georgiann Jock; Leonard Petrilla, married to former Debbie Glessner; and Stanley Petrilla, married to former Amy Caroff; grandchildren, Annette and Alex Kaltenbaugh, Nicholas and Cassandra Petrilla; Alyssa, Alijah and Alexis Petrilla; and Charlotte Petrilla. Brother of Ethel Dena, Johnstown; Catherine Spadone, Pittsburgh; and Betty, wife of Harry Wolonosky, Florida. Also survived by brother-in-law, Albert Stopko, Windber; sisters-in-law, Marge Petrilla, York, and Stella Petrilla, Windber; and many nieces and nephews. A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War in period of active duty from Dec. 14, 1950 to Dec. 12, 1952. Received 50-year commemorative service medal for service in the Korean War. Former employee of Bali Bra Co. and retired employee of Johnstown Savings Bank. Member of Windber VFW and Windber Slovak Educational Club. Former Hooversville Borough Councilman and former member of the Hooversville Lions Club. Steve enjoyed gardening, bus trips to Wheeling and Atlantic City and spending time with his family. His unique sense of humor and generous hospitality will be missed by all. Friends and family will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Deaner Funeral Home, Hooversville, where vigil for the deceased will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. Member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Hooversville, where funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday. The Rev. Karl Kolodziejski officiating. Committal, church cemetery.
