"Wimpy" Phillippi, 77, of Rockwood, Black Township, died March 22, 2000 at Siemon's Lakeview Manor Estate. Born April 8, 1922 in Black Township, he is the son of the late John and Sadie (Knopsnyder) Phillippi. Also preceded in death by brothers, Dan, Clyde, Elmer, Fred, Roy and Orville Phillippi, and sisters, Irene Younkin, Nettie Wilson, Agnes Moore and Leora Phillippi. Survived by his wife, the former Jean Gary with whom he would have celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary on March 31. Also survived by daughter, Teresa Baker of Somerset and son Merle R. Phillippi of Rockwood. Sisters: Hazel May and Pearl Klink, both Rockwood, and brother, Robert Phillippi of Rockwood. Grandchildren: Jennifer Baker. Nathan Phillippi, and Ashley Phillippi. Member of Rockwood American Legion Post 279, US Army veteran of World War II and a retired coal miner. Friends received 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday in the Robert H. Halverson Funeral Home where services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, with Rev. Patrick Walsh officiating. Interment, Laurel Cemetery, Rockwood. Daily American, March 23, 2000 [P0434]
