Born March 8, 1909, in Middlecreek Township, Somerset County. Son of the late Harvey George and Christianna (Jamison) Phillippi. Preceded in death by a great-grandson, Stephen Onstead; a sister, Vida Cramer; and a brother, Vern E. Phillippi. Survived by his wife, the former Helen Marie Hill, to whom he was married for 59 years, and these children: Ray E. Phillippi, married to the former Nancy Miller, Somerset RD 5, and Mrs. James C. (Martha) Onstead, Somerset RD 5. Also four grandchildren: James A. Onstead, Somerset RD 5; Mrs. Timothy (Cheryl) Weimer, Somerset RD 1; Stephen Onstead, married to the former Fritz Cavvathas, Somerset RD 5; and Mark A. Phillippi, married to the former Donna Troup, Somerset. Also great-grandchildren Samantha and James Onstead, Cassic and Chelsey Weimer, and Jessica Onstead. He was a former coal Miner and had owned and operated Phillippi's Sunoco Service Station in Somerset from 1959 to 1974. Member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church and United Mine Workers of America Local 7896. Friends will be received 2-4 and 79 p.m. Thursday at the Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home, Somerset. Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 8, at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church with the Rev. David S. Jack and Rev. J. Wesley Spahn officiating. Interment, Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Viewing at the church from 9 a.m. until time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church Building Fund, RD 1 Friedens, Pa. 15541.
