Born March 22, 1920 in Sand Patch, she is the daughter of the late Harry W. and Elizabeth (Habel) Byers. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Buell Maynard Phillippi in 1964; sister, Doris Clapper; and brother, Willard Byers. She is survived by her son, Herb Phillippi and his wife Deb, and granddaughter Emily, all of Johnstown; and daughter, Linda Sliger, Salisbury, Md.; grandchildren, Mike and Tracy Helm; and great-grandchildren, Zachary Stride and Garrett Churchey. She is also survived by her sisters, Ferne Kinter, Rockwood, and Una Lichty, Laurel, Md.; and brothers, Blaine and John Byers, both of Las Cruces, N.M.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was a member of Trinity Reformed Church in Rockwood and the Rockwood Fire Co. Ladies' Auxiliary. She was the first female police officer employed by Rockwood Borough in the 1970s. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Miller Funeral Home, Rockwood, where a service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Kenneth Davis officiating.
