At the time of his death he was a director of the Philson National Bank, where he had been employed as cashier up until his retirement two years ago, when he was admitted to the Government hospital for treatment of tuberculosis. During the recent holiday season he visited with his wife and son, Robert, at Berlin, Pa. Mrs. Philson was Elizabeth Black, daughter of Flora S. Black of Holland Farms. Mr. Philson seemed in fine health at the time and it appeared as though he was well on the way to recovery from his affliction. His sudden passing was a shock to the family and friends. Robert Philson was a son of Robert and Agnes (Peterson) Philson and was born March 28, 1894, in Ligonier. He was educated in the Berlin schools and a graduate of Gettysburg College. He served overseas with the U.S. Army during the World War. Mr. Philson was employed in the Philson National Bank prior to his enlistment in the Army. After returning from service he settled in Ashtabula, O., where he taught school for several years. He later took a position with the Bessemer & Lake Erie Railroad Company in Pittsburgh. In February, 1924, Mr. Philson returned to Berlin and resumed his position in the Philson National Bank. He was active in civic and church affairs in Berlin and took great interest in Boy Scout work and in the Chamber of Commerce. Funeral services will be conducted in Berlin Friday afternoon. Arrangements are in charge of Johnson & Son, Berlin morticians. Meyersdale Republican, January 23, 1941
