Philson, 72, of Meyersdale, died Feb. 2, 1983, in Meyersdale Community Hospital. Born Nov. 5, 1910, in Meyersdale, a son of the late R.H. and Rebecca (Reger) Philson. Surviyed by his widow, Althea Habel; one son and two daughters: Robert M., of Meyersdale; Nancy, wife of Donald J. Kopf, Sarasota, Fla.; and Rebecca, wife of Richard J. Diak, of Fort Mill, S.C.; three grandchildren; two sisters: Mrs. Margaret Shayer, Pittsburgh and Florida; and Mrs. Rebecca McClure, Salisbury and Florida. He graduated from Meyersdale High School in 1928, Gettysburg College in 1932, where he was a member of the Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity and elected membership in the Phi Beta Kappa National Honorary Fraternity. He did post-graduate work at Johns Hopkins Uniyersity for a year. He was employed as a chemist for 12 years at the Texaco Research Laboratory, Beacon, N.Y. In 1946, he and his wife, Althea, returned to Meyersdale when he was elected vice president of the Citizens National Bank. After his father's death in 1959 he was elected president of the bank. He was director of the Philson National Bank in Berlin. He retired as president of the Citizens National Bank in 1980, but continued to serve on the board of directors of both banks. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church and served on the council for many years. He was a charter member of the Meyersdale B.P.O.E. No. 1951, and a past exulted ruler of the lodge. He was a member of all the Masonic bodies; past president of the Somerset County Bankers Association; past president of the Meyersdale Rotary Club. He served as a Boy Scoutmaster for many years. He was the treasurer of Meyersdale Borough and active in the Meyersdale Development Association, and took part in many community projects. Friends will be received in the Leckemby Funeral Home Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., where services will be Friday at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Lloyd Wilson officiating. Interment, Union Cemetery.
