WILLIAM F. PHILSON

  William F. Philson, 78, one of the best known residents of Berlin, died at his 
home Saturday morning after a prolonged illness.  He was a Berlin merchant for 
30 years, continuing a business that his father had started.  He served eight 
years as a member of the Berlin school board, was a deacon for many years in the 
Lutheran church, a director of the Philson National Bank and a member of the 
first band of Berlin.
  He was a son of Samuel A. and Elizabeth (Walker) Philson.  Surviving are his 
wife, Mrs. Minnie (Brubaker) Philson and the following children: Mrs. Elwood 
Landis, Mrs. George Dively and Mrs. Chester Musser, all of Berlin; Mrs. Myra P. 
Floto and Miss Elizabeth Philson, both of Cumberland, Md.; Mrs. Ralph Eckels, 
Lansdowne; Howard C., Edgar B. and Walter W. Philson, of Berlin.
  Funeral services were conducted at 2 Tuesday afternoon at the Philson home by 
Rev. Robert Nagle, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, Berlin.  Burial in the 
IOOF Cemetery in charge of the Johnson Funeral Home, Berlin.
