Philson, 78, one of the best known residents of Berlin, died at his home Saturday morning after a prolonged illness. He was a Berlin merchant for 30 years, continuing a business that his father had started. He served eight years as a member of the Berlin school board, was a deacon for many years in the Lutheran church, a director of the Philson National Bank and a member of the first band of Berlin. He was a son of Samuel A. and Elizabeth (Walker) Philson. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Minnie (Brubaker) Philson and the following children: Mrs. Elwood Landis, Mrs. George Dively and Mrs. Chester Musser, all of Berlin; Mrs. Myra P. Floto and Miss Elizabeth Philson, both of Cumberland, Md.; Mrs. Ralph Eckels, Lansdowne; Howard C., Edgar B. and Walter W. Philson, of Berlin. Funeral services were conducted at 2 Tuesday afternoon at the Philson home by Rev. Robert Nagle, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, Berlin. Burial in the IOOF Cemetery in charge of the Johnson Funeral Home, Berlin. Meyersdale Republican, June 18, 1942
