Philson, 70, of White Star Village, Jennerstown, died March 11 at Memorial Hospital, Johnstown. Born Nov. 5, 1903, in Mann's Choice, Bedford County, a son of Speer 0. and Sarah C. May Philson. Preceded in death by parents and four sisters: Maude, Leafy, Pauline and Mrs. Dorthea Lowry. Survived by widow, the former Rae Cobern; a son John R. Philson M.D., married to the former Florence Rae Paugh of Willingboro, N.J and two grandchildren. A brother of Mrs. Mary M. Griffith; Florence E. Philson; Zora M. Philson and John L., married to the former Mary Lucinda Sipe, all of Jennerstown. Was a former partner of White Star Hotel, Jennerstown, and with his brother and sisters, operated the hotel for 50 years. Was a former postmaster of Jennerstown; part owner of the Jennerstown Speedway and a member of Laurel Trinity Lutheran Church, Jennerstown where he was a former treasurer of the church. Member of Somerset Lodge 358 F. and A. M. Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite and a 32nd Degree Mason. He also was a member of the Pittsburgh Lodge F. and A. M. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Joseph H. Hoffman Funeral Home, 227 Allegheny St., Boswell where service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Jesse E. Wolf officiating. Interment Somerset County Memorial Park. Masonic service 6:45 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
