Picking, 79, West Fairview Street, Somerset, died April 26, 1987, at Maple Mountain Manor. Born June 9, 1907, in Somerset, son of the late Joseph and Elsie (Brant) Picking. Preceded in death by wife, the former Ruth Alberta Louder, and a brother, Paul. Survived by son, David S. of Somerset; and sisters, Mrs. Homer (Dorothy) Schilling and Mrs. Howard (Catherine) Pile, both of Phoenix, Ariz. Owner and operator of Picking's Repair Shop. Former Somerset County Treasurer and former superintendent of equipment for the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission. Member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ. Past president and chief of Somerset Volunteer Fire Department. Past president and co-founder of the Laurel Ridge Sportsmen's Association. Board member of the Childrens Aid Society. President of the Old-Timers Baseball Association. Former Somerset County Republican Party chairman. Friends will be receiyed 7-9 p.m. Tuesday (today) and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home where seryice will be held Thursday at 10 a.m., the Rev. Joseph M. Beer and Mr. Jay Shaffer officiating. Interment, Somerset County Memorial Park. Family requests memorial contributions to Somerset Fire Department Equipment Fund.
