Pile, 80, Greencastle, died Sept. 19, 2004, at home. Born Dec. 13, 1923, in Friedens, son of Russell M. and Ruth E. (Carver) Pile. Preceded in death by parents; wife, the former Verna Zimmerman; son, Alan L. Pile and a brother Dalton Pile. Survived by a daughter, Diane K. Pile, Gaithersburg, Md.; daughter-in-law, Jean A. Pile, Mill Creek; grandsons, Ryan and wife Cathy, and Shane. Brother of Dorothy Bittner, Katherine Carter and Thelma Miller, all of Somerset, Jean Hittie, New Freedom, Patricia Gebhart, Cascade, Md., William Pile, Littleton, Colo. and Karl Pile, Hagerstown, Md. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. A 1941 graduate of Shanksville-Stonycreek High School. World War II Army veteran having served in the European Theater. Former owner of Pile Hardware in New Paris, and former co-owner of R.M. Pile and Sons Septic Service, Cearfoss, Md. Member of State Line United Methodist Church, American Legion Post 373, Greencastle, N.R.A. and the National Wild Turkey Federation. He was an avid hunter in Potter County for more than 50 years. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Greencastle, and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Deaner Funeral Home, Stoystown. Viewing from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Thursday at Friedens Lutheran Church. The Rev. Dwaine Krebs and Rev. Edward DeVore officiating. Interment, Somerset County Memorial Park.
