He was born March 19, 1916 in Somerset. Howard was a World War II veteran. Howard graduated from Somerset High School and attended California State Teachers College in California, Pa., graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He received a masters degree from Westminster College in Westminster, Pa. Howard taught for four years at Somerset High School and was a teacher at Sharon Jr. High from 1942 to 1950. Howard ran his own business, Pile Oil in Sharon, Pa., for 10 years before returning to teaching in Phoenix, Ariz. He was then an Orpheus member, director of Choraliers in Sun City, director of Christ Presbyterian Church choir in Phoenix for 13 years, director of Faith Presbyterian Church Choir in Sun City for 14 years, member of The Optimists Club, teacher and assistant principal at Cortez High School for 21 years. Survivors are his wife Catherine Pile; sons Allen Pile, Lynn Pile, daughters, Charlene Penny, Barbara Larremore, 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Memorial service was held May 4, at Faith Presbyterian Church, 16000 N. Del Web Blvd., Sun City, Ariz. The Howard L.
