Pile, 88, of 246 Sunrise Drive, Maugansville, Md., died Oct. 10, 1989, in Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown, Md. Born Jan 28, 1901, in Friedens, son of the late John W. and Catherine (Yoder) Pile. Preceded in death by brothers, Norman and Charles, and a sister, Margaret Keyser; two sons, Dalton and Delphin. Survived by wife of 69 years, the former Ruth Carver, and the following children: Dorothy E. Bittner and Mrs. Edward (Kathryn) Carter, both of Somerset; Mrs. Robert (Thelma) Miller, Friedens; Mrs. Robert (Jean) Hittie, New Freedom; Patricia A. Hillegas, Hagerstown; Cletus, married to the former Vema Zimmerman, Greencastle; William D., married to the former Norma Barnhart, Littleton, Colo.; Karl L., married to the former Patricia Coleman, and a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Dalton Pile, all of Hagerstown; 27 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Brother of Mrs. Bessie Eash, Davidsville; Romer M. Pile, Allegheny Lutheran Home, Johnstown, and James D. Pile, Friedens. Member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Hagerstown. Former member of Friedens Evangelical Lutheran Church. Member of Maugansville Senior Citizens. Founder of R. M. Pile and Sons Septic Service, Hagerstown, retiring in 1968. Prior to establishing the septic service, he was involved in coal operations in Somerset County. Friends will be received 7-9 pm. Thursday at the Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Blvd, Hagerstown. Friends will also be received from 2-9 p.m. Friday at the Wilbur D. Miller Funeral Home, Somerset. Service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Friedens Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Rev. A. Bernard Coates and the Rev. James R. Ling officiating. Interment, Somerset County Memorial Park.
