Born Aug. 1, 1903, in Johnstown, son of Charles Sr. and Barbara (Kmetz) Pipta. Preceded in death by parents; sisters, Helen, Anna and Elizabeth, and brother, Michael J. Survived by wife, the former Mary S. Nesbela, and these children: Michael, Deerborn Heights, Mich.; Irene Shiring, Oceanside, Calif.; John Jr., Newry; Eleanor Hipsley, Lanham, Md.; Robert, Anaheim, Calif.; Mary Jane Bodner, Greenbelt, Md.; Barbara Elser, Anaheim, Calif., and Paul, Johnstown RD 4; also numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Brother of Charles Jr., California; Barbara Izzo and Mary Carpenter, both of Long Island, N.Y., and Julia Bennett, Washington. Longtime member of SS. Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church, Jerome, where he served as cantor for many years. Also member of UMWA. Retired employee of the former Hillman Coal and Coke Company and Kaczey Mine Service. Would have observed 66th wedding anniversary Oct. 24, 1993. Friends received from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Hoffman Funeral Home, Allegheny Street, Boswell, where Parastas will be sung at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Prayer service at 9:15 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by Christian Burial with Divine Liturgy at 10 am. Wednesday at SS Peter and Paul's church, Rev. Father Daniel Loya officiating.
