  Charles E. Platt Sr., 88, Shanksville, died Jan. 18, 1987, at
  Somerset Community Hospital.  Born May 1, 1898, in Berlin, son of Fred
  and Hannah (Johns) Platt.  Preceded in death by parents; wife, the
  former Kathryn Fox; sisters: Rose Boyer, Emily May, Pauline Sanner
  and Eleanor Mitchell; and brother, the Rev. J. Wesley; and three
  brothers and sisters who died in infancy.  Survived by these children:
  Robert C., married to Phyllis Jones, Somerset; C. Edward Jr., married
  to the former Patricia Shaffer, Shanksville; eight grandchildren and
  three great-grandchildren. Brother of: Frank I., Sanford, Fla.; Henry
  and Mabel Hepler, both of Berlin; and Mrs. Earl (Ethel) Miller,
  Meyersdale RD 4.  Retired insurance agent and Evergreen Nursery owner.
  Member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, Shanksville, 58-year member of
  Meyersdale Lodge 554 F&AM, Harrisburg Scottish Rite Consistory,
  Shanksville Silver and Gold Senior Citizens, and a charter-member of
  Shanksville Rod and Gun Club.  Family will receive friends 7-9 p.m.
  Monday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Deaner Funeral Home,
  Stoystown, where service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, with the
  Rev. Ralph E. Mills officiating.  Interment, Walker Cemetery,
  Shanksville.
