Platt, 84, Berlin, went to be with his Lord March 12, 2007, at Meadow View Nursing Center after a long struggle with illness. Born Nov. 1, 1922, in Brothersvalley Township, son of Galen S. and Minnie (Adams) Platt. Preceded in death by parents; son, Gary; brothers, Ralph and Ray; sis-ters, Ruth and Anna. Survived by wife of 58 years, the for-mer Verna Ruth Shockey; children: Alan, married to the former Barbara Hershey, New Providence; David and friend, Angie Guthrie, Meyersdale; Roger, married to the former Jayne Hittie, Berlin; and Brian, married to the former Donna Tranavich, Hollsopple; grandchildren, Sharon, Steven, Matthew, Jamie, Nicole, Justin, Amanda, Daniel and Cody Platt; and great-grandson, Braden. Brother of, Glenn Platt, Somerset; Emma Grace Kaap, Waco, Texas; and Janet (John) Gomola, Murraysville. A 1941 graduate of Berlin Brothersvalley High School and a dairy farmer his whole life. He was a member of Berlin Alliance Church, Berlin Area Young Farmers, Valley Senior Extension Club and an honorary member of Brothersvalley FFA. Former member of Brothersvalley Church of the Brethren, where he was a deacon and held various offices, Pennsylvania Farm Bureau, Brotherton Pike Cemetery Association and Agway Board of Directors. He also was a Pa. State plowing champion and participated in area tractor pulls. His inter-ests reflected a love of God and farming. Family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until time of service 3 p.m. Thursday at Berlin Alliance Church. The Rev. Sherman Berkey and the Rev. Ralph Landis officiating. Interment Brotherton Pike Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in Clyde's name to Berlin Alliance Church, 725 North Broadway St., Berlin, PA 15530.
