Platt, 70, of Somerset died Oct. 17, 1995 at home. Born June 28, 1925 in Shanksville. Son of the late Charles and Katherine (Fox) Platt. Survived by wife the former Phyllis Jones and these children: Mrs. Dennis (Debbie) Lanyon of Baden, Douglas married to the former Theresa Lane, Sanford, Fla., Gregg married to the former Sharon Pyle of Allison Park, and Mrs. William (Janice) Shipley of Fairhope. Also survived by grandchildren Denise, Drew and Dania Lanyon; Derek and Ashley Platt; Angela Shipley, and step grandchildren Susan Gabelhart and John Stocker. Brother of Edward Platt, married to the former Patricia Shaffer, Shanksville. Graduated with a B.S. in education from Clarion State College and a M.Ed. from the University of Pittsburgh. Retired educator who served as principal of Somerset Area High School from 1965 to 1976, where he previously taught drivers education. Partner in Platt and Platt Insurance Co., Somerset. Member of the Somerset County Chamber of Commerce. Past worshipful master of the Somerset Lodge 358 F.& A.M. Member of Harrisburg Consistory and the Jaffa Shrine in Altoona. Former member of the Somerset Rotary Club. Past official of District V Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Assn. Veteran of the U.S. Navy who served in W.W. II. Member of the Somerset American Legion, and Calvary United Methodist Church, Somerset, where he served as Sunday School teacher, choir member and held various administrative posts. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Wilbur D. Miller Funeral Home, Somerset. Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Calvary United Methodist Church where remains will lie in state one hour prior to the service, Rev. Raymond Lyon officiating.
