He was born on May 12, 1898, in Jennings. He was a son of the late Henry and Jemima (Handwerk) Platter. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Rosa (Fresh) Platter, and a daughter, Olive Pauline Kerns. Mr. Platter was a lifelong farmer with supplemental employment with the mining and lumber industries. He was a member of Maple Grove Church of the Brethren. Survivors include two sons: Claude Eldred Platter and Eillis Fay Platter, both of Grantsville, MD; two daughters: Rosalene June Platter and Alma Lois Platter, both of Grantsville; two brothers: Fenton Platter, of Fincastle, VA; Everett Platter, Grantsville; two sisters: Leafie Ohler, of Grantsville; Carrie Lowery, of Meyersdale; seven grandchildren, 19 greatgrandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Friends were received in the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville, where service was conducted on Sunday with the Rev: Joseph Lewis officiating. Interment was in the Grantsville Cemetery.
