Platter, 98, of Star Route, Grantsville, Md., died at his residence on Jan. 24, 1988. Born near Grantsville, Md., on July 23, 1891, he was a son of the late Charles and Anna Jane (Durst) Platter. He was a retired woodsman and had worked with Eugene Sines. He was a member of the Laughlin Church of the Brethren, where he was a former trustee, usher, and janitor for many years. His wife, Mintie (Durst) Platter, died March 25, 1962. He is survived by two sons, Lester Platter and Luther Platter, both of Grantsville, Md.; four daughters, Mrs. Orpha Wisseman, Mrs. Hilda Younkin, Miss Melva Platter, all of Grantsville, Md.; and Mrs. Marie Willison, Frostburg, Md.; two brothers, Orvis Platter, Fort Hill; and Elroy Platter, Frostburg, Md.; 22 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends were received at the Newman Funeral Home. Services were conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Laughlin Church of the Brethren by the Rev. Joseph Lewis. Interment, Durst Cemetery.
