Plitt, a retired salesman, aged 88 years, died at 5 o'clock, Thursday evening, May 16, at the home of Miss Sadie Just, 304 Broadway, where he had been boarding for several years. For a good many years before his retirement he had been employed as a salesman in the Shipley Hardware store and in the Dull Mercantile Company's store in the business block and apartment house now owned by C. A. Phillips. During his latter years he was badly crippled in his legs and spent most of his days in bed or a wheel chair. His general health was good until a very short time before his death which was caused by gastric pressure against his heart. Mr. Plitt had a very kind and genial disposition and had a host of friends who enjoyed his companionship. He was a member of the Main Street Brethren Church and faithful and regular in attendance as long as he was able to walk to church. He was very tenderly cared for by Miss Just during his last years and was very happy to be a member of her household. He was born in Johnstown, Jan. 27, 1858, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Plitt, and spent most of his life in Meyersdale. His wife, the former Amanda J. Bittner, died in 1921. Surviving are two sons, Charles E., of Newark, Del., and John B., of Meyersdale. The latter gave very devoted attention to his father during the years that he was a shut-in owing to the weakness of his legs, and spent much time at his bedside. Mr. Plitt is survived also by one sister, Mrs. Minnie Leckey of Hickory, Pa., and two grandchildren. A brother, Charles Plitt, several years younger than Edward, died several years ago. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Konhaus Funeral Home by Rev. Gerald Polman, pastor of the Main St. Brethren Church. Interment was made in Union Cemetery.
