Dr. A. M. Uphouse, county coroner, said the man's death resulted from a crushed abdomen, ruptured kidney and fracture of the right leg. Mr. Plume entered the mine Sunday morning to replenish the dwindling stock of coal at his home. When he failed to return to his home by the middle of the afternoon, his two young sons went in search of him. They found their father pinned under rocks which had fallen on him from the roof of the mine. He was conscious, however, and gave his sons directions as they labored a half-hour to extricate him. Before his death, which occurred at 5:30 p.m., Mr. Plume informed members of his family that he had been trapped nearly three hours before his plight was discovered. He said he did not scream for help because he knew that he could not be heard outside the mine. Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Plume home. Interment in the Jersey Cemetery was directed by Undertaker C. B. Humbert of Confluence. Meyersdale Republican, February 14, 1946
