All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/somerset/ _______________________________________________ POORBAUGH Donald Jay Poorbaugh, 64, quietly passed away from us at his home outside of Berlin on Jan. 31, 2001, at 2:10 a.m. He was born on April 8, 1936, to the late Freeman and Mary (Miller) Poorbaugh of Dividing Ridge. He was predeceased by an infant brother Robert. He was the loving husband for 39 years of Barbara Jane (Glessner). Beloved father of Scott, married to Jeannette, Allison Park; Gail Lyn, Butler; and Eric, married to Tammy, Monroeville. Grandfather of Tanner Russell Clark (9), Jane Louise Poorbaugh (6), Thomas Michael Poorbaugh (2), and Alexandra Dawn Poorbaugh (3 months). Brother of Betty Smith and Peggy Bowser, both of Berlin; William, married to Virginia, Cleveland, Ohio; Richard, married to Catherine, Somerset; and Beverly, married to Max Ashby, Garland, Texas. He was a graduate of Berlin-Brothersvalley Joint High School, class of 1954, and was president of his junior and senior class. He graduated from the former Indiana State College, Indiana, Pa., with a bachelor's degree in Mathematics Education in August of 1961. He served in the U.S. Army from Jan. 5, 1962, through Aug. 20, 1963, and then served in the Army Reserve until Aug. 19, 1967. He was a retired high school mathematics and computer science teacher with 30 years of service at Berlin-Brothersvalley High School. Over the years he coached girls volleyball and girls basketball. He was a member and former deacon of Trinity United Church of Christ, Berlin; a member of the Mountain Field & Stream Club, Roxbury; the NRA; and member and past commander of American Legion Post 445, Berlin. He was an avid outdoorsman and hunter. He has left behind many good friends, students and a loving family. He will be greatly missed. Family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at the Deaner Funeral Home, Berlin. Memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Trinity United Church of Christ, Berlin, with Rev.
