All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/somerset/ ________________________________________________ JAMES ALLEN POORBAUGH James Allen Poorbaugh, York County farm leader, husband of Susan Muhlenberg Poorbaugh, Edge Mount farm, York R.D. 3, died suddenly at his home at 7:20 o'clock Monday evening, Sept. 28, 1942. Death was caused by coronary thrombosis. He was 61. A prominent dairy farmer and recognized leader of state agricultural affairs, Mr. Poorbaugh was awarded the degree of Master farmer for achievements in farming and as a farm leader. He served for six years as president of the York County Agricultural Extension Association and was a director of the Interstate Milk Producers Association. An original director of the Eastern National Bank, Mr. Poorbaugh served in that capacity until the consolidation of that bank in 1941 with the York National Bank and Trust Company. He was a member of Heidelberg Reformed Church and served as a trustee of that church for a number of years. Besides his wife he leaves two daughters, Mrs. Lula Hinkle, Princeton, N.J., and Marion P. Poorbaugh, at home; five sons, Herman S. Poorbaugh, Schuylkill Haven; Ray A. Poorbaugh, Quakerstown; William J. Poorbaugh, Lancaster, and Lee M. Poorbaugh, at home; a sister, Lucretia A. Poorbaugh, Berlin, Pa.; four brothers, Harvey E. Poorbaugh, Wellersburg, Pa.; Ammon W. Poorbaugh, Meyersdale, Pa.; Alvin P. Poorbaugh, Lincoln, Nebraska, and F. Thomas Poorbaugh, York, Pa., and four grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock this Thursday afternoon from the Guy B. Creep Funeral Home, York. Rev. Robert Thena, pastor of Heidelberg Reformed Church, officiated. Interment was in Mt. Rose Cemetery. Meyersdale Republican, October 1, 1942
