Pope, 87, of Meyersdale, died Aug. 5 at Meyersdale Community Hospital. Born Nov. 1, 1905 in Garrett County, Md. Son of the late George L. and Mary (Carney) Pope. Survived by his wife, the former Gladys (Miller) Pope. Preceded in death by his first wife, the former Regina Loraditch; brother, Carney Paul Pope; and sisters, Elizabeth Keating and Genevieve Miller. Survived by six sons: Father Benedict, O.F.M. Cap., Albuquerque, N.M.; James, Gaithersburg, Md.; Eugene and Steven, both of Salisbury; Earl, Mt. Savage, Md.; and David, Grantsville, Md.; 13 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Also survived by a sister Lou Bowman, Baltimore, Md.; and step-children, Ella Herak, Cleveland, Ohio; Zelma Bittner, Berlin; Joanne Trocano, Matthew, N.C.; and Clyde Hillegass, Renton, Wash.; 11 step-grandchildren and 21 step-great-grandchildren. Member of SS. Philip and James Catholic Church, Meyersdale, former member of Salisbury Lions Club and Salisbury Volunteer Fire Department. Rented and farmed the Alverno Farm, Salisbury. Previously farmed the family farm in Garrett County, and for more than 40 years, retailed butter and eggs in Frostburg and Cumberland, Md. Friends will be received from 7-9 p.m. Saturday and 2-4 and 7-9 Sunday at the Price Funeral Home, Meyersdale. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Monday at SS. Philip and James Catholic Church, Meyersdale with the Rev. James F. Bunn and various capuchins concelebrating. Interment St. Ann's Cemetery, Avilton, Md.
