She was formerly of Meyersdale. She was born Feb. 19, 1912 in Greenville Twp., daughter of Harvey and Belinda (Baer) Miller. Preceded in death by her husbands James Hillegass, Karl Christner and Claude Pope, and these brothers and sisters: George, Carl, Harvey, Elbert, and Ray Miller, Alma Dietle, Maggie Williams, Mildred Dietle, Agnes Schrock and Ethel Miller. Survived by the following children: Ella Herak, Perry, Ga., Zelma, wife of Francis Bittner Jr., Berlin, Joanne, wife of Leonard Trocano, Strongsville, Ohio, and Clyde and his wife, Sharri Hillegass, Renton, Wash.; and the following grandchildren: Michael, Dan Herak, Suzanne Mahalic, Michael Bittner, Carol Wickey, Leonard, Brian, Rick and James Trocano, Timothy Hillegass and Janene Lamphere; 25 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Emma Meese, wife of John Meese of Salisbury. Survived also by the following stepchildren: Fr. Benedict Pope, Pittsburgh, James Pope and wife, Dodie, Gathersburg, Md., Eugene Pope and wife, Doris, Salisbury, Earl Pope and wife, Rozita, Mt. Savage, Md., Steve Pope and wife, Donna, Salisbury, and David Pope, Salisbury; 13 stepgrandchildren and 10 stepgreat-grandchildren. She was a long time active member of Zion Lutheran Church, Meyersdale, where she was on the Altar Guild and active with the Quilting Ladies until her death. Sewing many quilt tops. Active with Somerset Women's Aglow, War Mothers and volunteer at the Berlin Home. Gladys was well known for her hand-loomed rugs and homemade quilts. She will be missed. Friends will be received 2 to 9 p.m. Monday at the M. Ray Leckemby Funeral Home, Meyersdale. Tuesday she will be taken to the Zion Lutheran Church to lie in state from 10 to 11 a.m., the time of service. Rev. Glenn Foster in charge. Interment in Greenville Cemetery.
