Porter, 47, Southfield, Mich., formerly of Meyersdale and Garrett, died unexpectedly while at work at Capitol Reproductions Lithographing Co., in Royal Oak, Mich., on Friday, Jan. 20. A son of the late William S. and Edna (Nedrow) Porter, he was a nephew of Mrs. Nettie Glime and a cousin of her children, all former residents of Meyersdale. Surviving are his widow, Helen; two children, Faith, 13; and William S. IV; also two sisters, Mrs. Vivian Valentine, Detroit; and Mrs. Caroline Chapman, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. He attended school in Meyersdale, later moving to Ohio. He enlisted in the US Army for eight years, serving in the 103rd army under command of General Patton. He was decorated with the Bronze Star medal, American Defense Service medal, and the European African Middle Eastern Service medal with five bronze stars. Requiem high mass was sung at St. Bedes Catholic Church, Southfield, with interment in Holy Sepulchre cemetery on Jan. 23. Meyersdale Republican, February 23, 1967 [P0838]
