Porter Struck and Killed By Fast B & O Train William W. Porter, 55, was instantly killed at 10:15 p.m. Saturday when he was struck by a fast westbound Baltimore and Ohio passenger train. The tragedy occurred as Mr. Porter was attempting to cross the main tracks, from an alley near the depot. As the locomotive struck him his body was thrown about 150 feet and landed underneath a freight car standing on a side track. Deputy Coroner C. S. Beck reported that the man's skull was fractured and his chest crushed. Porter had worked for a number of years as a trackman for the railroad company. Mr. Porter was born here on Feb. 27, 1890, a son of Samuel and Sarah Ann (Rhoden) Porter. Surviving are three children - Mrs. Vivian Thomas and Mrs. Caroline Griffith, Akron, Ohio, and Gerald, with the Army in Germany. He was a brother of Mrs. William Forespring, Mrs. Benjamin Glime and Nick Porter, all of Meyersdale, and Mrs. Gertie Seggie, Detroit, Mich. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2:30 at the home of his brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Glime, Large Street. Interment was made in Union Cemetery, W. C.
