He had been in delicate health for a long time. He was taken to Johns Hopkins Hospital on January 4 and underwent an operation on January 7 for the removal of a large tumor from his head, but did not have the vitality to recover. Harry Porterfield was born in Confluence on December 3, 1896, and was aged 33 years, 1 month and 9 days at the time of his death. He was a son of Silas and Sarah Nickolson Porterfield, both of whom survive. He spent his younger years in the town of his birth and attended the public schools. He was married to Miss Bessie Mimna, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Mimna of Harnedsville, and is survived by his wife and one daughter, Mary Jane Porterfield. In 1918 he went overseas as a member of the A.E.F. and served during the war. The hardships of the war shattered his health so that he was an invalid the remainder of his life. Besides his parents, wife and daughter, he is survived by one brother, Alvin Porterfield, of West Homestead, and one sister, Miss Lucy Porterfield, of Confluence. He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church and Sunday school and a young man of sterling character. The remains were brought from Baltimore to the home of his parents in Confluence on Monday, where they remained until Wednesday when the funeral took place in the Methodist Episcopal Church, Rev. H. W. Jamison officiating. The funeral was in charge of Harry Lichty Post of the American Legion, of which he was a member. Interment in Addison Cemetery. Meyersdale Republican, January 16, 1930
