She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Garner; and her parents, Harry and Ruth Smith. Marian was born in Central City on Nov. 22, 1919. Her family moved to Shanksville in 1931 where she attended elementary and high school. Following high school she attended Duffs Business School in Pittsburgh and later, while employed as a secretary at the Berlin High School, she met her husband, Garner, who was a teacher there. They were married on June 13, 1942. Marian loved being a homemaker and was a wonderful cook and housekeeper. She also enjoyed gardening and had a lifelong hobby of bird watching. She made many beautiful quilts on her own and also quilted with the Women's Missionary Society at the Berlin Brethren Church. She served in many capacities at that church, including becoming a Deaconess. Later, she found another church home in the Three Seasons Community Church in Berlin and her dedicated study of the Bible and the friendship and support of Pastor Karchner and members of that church continued to enrich her life. Marian was especially proud of being Grammy Pritz to her five grandchildren and decorated her house with their photos, mementos, and art work. Marian will be greatly missed by her sisters, Lois Hinebaugh, Oceanside, Calif.; and LaVerne Page, Shanksville; as well as her daughters, Linda Rowe, Asheville, N.C.; Carol Sivesind, Lafayette, Calif.; and MaryMartha, Berlin; and her grandchildren, Lauren, Kate, Lucas, and Edward Rowe, and Torunn Sivesind. There will be a private family service at the grave site. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942, a favorite organization of Marian's. Arrangements by Deaner Funeral Home, Berlin.
