Proia, formerly of Boswell RD 2, died Feb. 21, 1988, in Humbert Lane Health Care Center after a long illness. Born Aug. 3, 1921, in Washington, Pa., son of the late Rocco and Giovanni Proia. He was a self-employed diesel mechanic for 40 years and attended First Ward School. He was also a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Washington, Pa., and Taylorstown American Legion. Surviving are his fiancee, Sue Dugan; three stepchildren, Jody, Lori and Angie, all at home; brother, Albert of Philadelphia; and five sisters: Nancy Davis of Calif., Virginia Rea of Mich., Josephine Kenny of Wash., D.C., and Anna Mastantuono and Teresa Lombard of Washington, Pa. Deceased is one brother, George. Mass of Christian Burial was held Feb. 24 in Immaculate Conception Church with the Rev. Beck officiating. Interment, Immaculate Conception Cemetery.
