PULLIN The following obituary appeared in the December 24th issue of the Hudson (Iowa) Herald: The news of the sudden death of Joseph W. Pullin, aged 78, Sunday afternoon, Dec. 20th, of heart trouble came as a great shock to his many friends and acquaintances in and around Hudson. Although Mr. Pullin had not been in the best of health for some time, he had not been confined to his bed and no one thought he would pass thus quickly. Mr. Pullin was feeling about as usual the Saturday before his death, and in the evening attended the U.B. church services, where he was a faithful worker. On Sunday forenoon he did not feel so well and decided not to attend church. However, he ate a hearty dinner, and afterwards went to read the Sunday paper. A little later when Mrs. Pullin went into the room, she found him dead in his chair. Mr. Pullin was one of the best liked and most respected citizens in Hudson. An honest, upright christian who always did his best to make life better for his fellowmen. He was a faithful and active member and worker in the United Brethren Church for many years. Mr. Pullin was born in Somerset County, Pennsylvania on July 30, 1853. He married Amanda McMillan of Somerset County on Oct. 25, 1887. They were the parents of four children. The family located on a farm west of Hudson in 1890, soon after arrival in Iowa. He later purchased a farm in Orange Township, where he resided until 1905, when he retired and moved to Hudson. He is survived by his wife, two daughters and two sons, Mrs. J. A. Baldwin, Elbow Lake, Minn.; Mrs. C. T. Loonan, Hudson, Iowa; Russell E. Pullin, Orange Township, Blackhawk County, Iowa, and Scott E. Pullin, Wapello, Iowa. There are 19 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A brother, Alfred Pullin, of Unamis, Somerset County, Pa, survives. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 at his late home, and at 2 o'clock in the U.B. Church. Rev. W. N. Roush, former pastor, had charge of the services, assisted by Rev. H. v. Riggs. Burial was in the Hudson Cemetery. Six grandsons, Harold Pullin, William Baldwin, Edwin and Joe Pullin and Carro and Everett Loonan were the pallbearers. Among those from out of town who attended the funeral was Lloyd McMillan of Morrell, Kansas, a brother of Mrs. Pullin. Meyersdale Republican, December 31, 1931
