Purbaugh of Rockwood, passed away April 28, 2000, at Conemaugh Hospital in Johnstown. Born April 26, 1918, in Smithfield. Son of Lester and Eleanor (Phillips) Purbaugh. Preceded in death by parents, daughter Barbara Saylor, and great-granddaughter Carrie L. Beal. Survived by wife Blanche (Tedrow) Purbaugh; grandchildren Nelson Saylor of Rockwood, Anita Persuhn, married to Ed, of Berlin, Angela Mosse (engaged to Rick Blair) of Stoystown, and Laura Saylor (engaged to Chris Painter) of Greensburg; and eight great-grandchildren. He was a 1937 graduate of Swissvale High School and a 1947 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with a bachelor of science degree. He was a retired employee of the B&O Railroad with 34 years of service. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, a member of Somerset American Legion, past president of the Rockwood Rotary Club and a life member of the Somerset County Historical Society. Friends will be received from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Miller Funeral Home, Rockwood, where a service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, with the Rev. Mark Bender officiating. Interment, Rockwood IOOF Cemetery.
