Pyle, died at her home at Coal Run, Elk Lick Township, March 20, at the age of 83 years, 10 months and 27 days, having been born April 23, 1846. She had been a semi-invalid for several years, and a few days before her death suffered an attack of senile pneumonia, which she was unable to overcome in her frail and weak condition. Emma Mimna was a native of Grantsville, Md. On October 17, 1864, she was married to John W. Pyle, a veteran of the Civil War. Mr. Pyle died June 7, 1920. The couple lived in Elk Lick Township the greater part of their lives. She was a member of Amity Reformed Church, Meyersdale, for 48 years. She was the mother of 15 children, nine of whom survive, namely, Henry, of Central City; Charles, Boynton; Howard, Canton, Ohio; Bert, Hooversville; Mrs. Alice Saylor, Meyersdale; Mrs. Annie Swartzwelder, Hooversville; Mrs. Elsie Larue, Elk Lick Township; Mrs. Jeenetta Ley, Marietta, Ohio, and Mrs. Eva Lowery, Boswell. She is survived also by 75 grandchildren and 87 great- grandchildren. Hers was a life of toil and sacrifice. It could not be otherwise in rearing and caring for such a large family, living the greater part of the time in the country and being without the conveniences and labor-saving devices of these more modern days. She was a woman of strong character and vigorous Christian faith. She had strong convictions of right and wrong, and did not hesitate to make them known. She did her best to bring up her children in the knowledge and love of God, and today they rise up to call her blessed. Funeral services in Amity Reformed Church last Sunday, conducted by her pastor, Rev. B. A. Black, were largely attended. Interment in the Reformed Cemetery under direction of W. C. Price.
