Born Oct. 24, 1913 in Somerset Township. Son of Martin and Emma (Zimmerman) Pyle. Preceded in death by parents; brothers, George, Joseph, Hamilton and Benjamin Pyle. Survived by wife of 59 years, the former Rowena (Pifer) Pyle; brother, Fred, married to the former Stelle (Hudsy) Pyle who reside in Mayo, Md.; sister-in-law, the former Dorothy Weaver of Somerset Township, wife of the late Hamilton Pyle; nieces and nephews and beloved cousin, Carrie "Sis" Neuman of Greentree. Glenn was one of six sons, five of whom served in the Armed Forces during World War II. Mrs. Martin Pyle was honored in New York City appearing on National Radio Show, "We the People" as being the first mother in the nation having five sons in the Armed Forces. Glenn entered the National Guard in Somerset in 1935. He was conscripted in Jan. 1941 for service prior to U.S. entry in World War II. He saw active duty in the Philippines and occupation of Japan. Returning to the United States in April, 1946, became Commanding Officer of Co. C., National Guard in Somerset. Conscripted again in June 1950 to serve in Korean Conflict, serving in Germany for three years. Returned to the National Guard as a Major, commanding Second Bn 103rd Armor 38th Division of Pa. Before retiring as a Lt. Col, he served as a member of Lt. Gen Henry K. Fluck's staff in Harrisburg until 1964. Was a member of First Christian Church of Somerset. A 1933 graduate of Dormont High School. Former member of Laurel Arts and Humane Society of Somerset. Life member of American Legion Post 181 and Home Aid Society of Somerset; American Legion (Flick McConnel) Post 81 in Washington, Pa. Life member of Retired Officer's Association of America; Gen. Green Chapter of TROA Latrobe/Greensburg; National Guard Association of US.; Steel City Retired Officer's Club of Pittsburgh. Active member of South Western Pa. Army Retirement Council at Charles E. Kelly Support Facility until his illness in 1997. Supervisor for the New Enterprise Stone and Lime Co., retiring in Nov. 1978. Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home where services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, Pastor Daniel F. Nicksich officiating. Interment, Somerset County Memorial Park.
