Born Feb. 5, 1931, in Confluence to Nunziato and Grazia (Nunari) Rascona. He is preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Josephine and Palma. He is survived by his loving wife, the former Lucy Maruca with whom he shared 50 years of marriage; children: Louis, Salisbury, Md.; Vicki, married to H. Scott Saylor, Somerset; Sandra, previously married to George Shroyer, Somerset; Samuel, Salisbury, Md.; John, Charlotte, N.C.; David, married to the former Carolyn Gough, Somerset; and Kimberly, Hummelstown. He is the beloved grandfather of Melissa, Amanda, Rachel, Ryan, Alex, Jessica, Michael, Vincent, Kyle, Dominic, Eloise and Nina. He is also survived by his brothers Nathan and Gregory, married to Sharon Rascona; niece Annette and nephews Nicholas and Benjamin. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and was a member of the FOE Aerie 1801 in Somerset. He is a lifelong member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Somerset. Sam enjoyed spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren and was an avid sports fan, golfer and fisherman. He was a local businessman in Somerset for more than 50 years. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Miller Funeral Home, Somerset. A Funeral Mass will be held 2:30 p.m. Friday at St. Peter's Church. The Rev. Monsignor Samuel Tomaselli celebrant. Interment at Somerset County Memorial Park with full military honors by the Somerset County Honor Guard will follow. A vigil for the deceased will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be sent to St. Peter's Church at 433 W. Church St., Somerset, PA 15501.
